BOUNTY. 2007

Bounty. Ink on paper. 2007

Another play with positive and negative spacing.

Doodling or Trance Art, is a great way to come up with interesting images of the heart and mind.

At the time I was reading about the Philadelphia Experiment, so some pretty weird

stuff subconsciously, came out in the drawing.

RELATIO INTERRUPTUS . 2007

Relatio Interruptus. Ink on acid free card. 11 June 2007.

This drawing is about how some men can sometimes congregate egoistically at barbecues,

while they piss up, and leave the women out. A mixture of bravado, arrogance, and macho attitude seems to occur.
I have found this is more in the older age bracket of the 60’s plus group, but I could well believe that where there is a barbecue, and  a group of men drinking their booze, the possibility may just occur there too.  Is this purely an Australian cultural habit?

HOSPITAL SERIES. 2007

Hospital Series, 2007. Ink and Watercolour.

In early 2007, I was trying to hand rear a little 4 week old kitten . As I was feeding it, it was so hungry it accidentally took my thumb for the teat on the bottle, then a need for surgery to remove fragmented bones and clean up the site… and so started a long cycle of 14 days of one hour intravenous antibiotic to kill a serious staph infection that took over my body. The first two works were done while undergoing the drip, and the last one after it was done.

DEAD CATS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD ON A SUMMER’S DAY. 2007

Dead Cats In The Middle Of The Road On A Summer’s Day. Circa 2007

I had a cat called Tab. Not what you’d call an imaginative name, but he was the brother of my other cat named Blackie. When Blackie had her kittens, she would sometimes leave them alone

while she went outside. Tab would come in via the window, set himself to business,

and clean the baby kittens so that they could empty their bladders.

Tab was a one of a kind brother. One day, I found Tab in pieces over my driveway. I was devastated, and I called a friend to clean up the devastation. I was having troubles at the time with a local cat killer.

God rest Tab’s dear soul.

BLUE LADY

pastel on canvas. 2007

Conceptual work with symbolism depicting loneliness, confinement, sadness, and hope.

Abstracted,  due to the nature of this conceptual work.

WALLPAPER IN MY COMPUTER ROOM

Print on Acid-Free Paper. Circa 2007

This wallpaper was made some years after uni days, from photographs of me

doing Performance Work for a show in my uni days.

I was singing and performing to ‘Send In The Clowns’ of which the concept was the challenging of age vs. brains.

THE MAKING OF THE LIGHTSHADE

Mixed Media. Cotton, enamel paint, nylon, plaster. 13th November, 2006

This work was made for my kitchen area. The concept is in regard to the loss of my hair.

A few years before, I had asked a singing student (who was a hairdresser by trade), to trim my very long blonde waist length hair.

When she had finished she had actually cut most of my

hair off without me realising. After that I decided to dye my hair black. Jealousy can be such a pain in the ……

LIZARDS

Ink drawing on acid-free paper. July 2006

The idea for this was to draw what isn’t real as a real image and to use the positive spacing as a

negative interpretation. So for example, the naked lady daydreaming of monsters attacking her is

being attacked by lizards, with a man drawn facing her, thought there is a face

drawn on the back of his jacket, looking the other way. Other images drawn in this imaginatively convoluted drawing are

nerd head, king’s head, crossed, houses, a letter, a clown, a rose, a shower head with sprays and drips, buildings , snake,

steps, roads that lead to nowhere, cogs and loopy tubing, other odd bits, and lizards attacking as if on a city!

I think Freud may have something to think about with this one!
